Lunch today is cheese pizza. Tomorrow is spaghetti.

Today’s ISAT Spring Training theme is PJ Day. Tomorrow’s theme is “Your favorite sports star” – someone who will motivate you to do well on the ISAT”s. Dress as your favorite athlete.

The 7th grade girls volleyball team won again last night against Tremont 25-11, 25-17. Delaney **** had 16 service points and Abby **** had 8 points. Practice today after school until 5.

8th graders, please remember that you will be at the high school for orientation today. You will need lunch money with you today. Please be on your best behavior, as you will have a lot to learn and listen for. Don’t forget that your teachers will be there with you if you need anything. I will be checking in on you periodically today as well.

Tomorrow’s theme is PJ Day – you’ll need to rest up for the upcoming tests. Wear school appropriate jammies tomorrow to help you relax and rest up for the ISATs.

Lunch today is chicken noodle soup. Tomorrow is chicken nuggets.

The 7th grade girls volleyball team got 2nd place in the Woodford County Tournament in Washburn this weekend. The Lady Redbirds defeated Riverview Friday night 25-7, 26-24 to be put in the winners bracket. They defeated Germantown Hills Saturday 25-13, 25-21 to go on to the championship where they played El Paso-Gridley and lost in three matches 18-25, 27-25, 25-18. Congratulations girls on your 2nd place finish. Practice tonight after school until 5.

Student Council members that are babysitting tonight at the PTO meeting need to be at school from 6:45-8:00 tonight. 8th graders, please remember that you will be at the high school for orientation tomorrow. You will need lunch money with you, unless you are bringing your own lunch.

Today is the first day of Spring Training for the ISAT’s. Tomorrow’s theme is workout day – you’ll be working out hard to prepare yourself for the state testing coming up. Wear your sweat gear or wind pants in preparation.

The 7th grade girls volleyball team defeated District 50 last night in 2 matches 25-16, 25-13. Kellie **** was strong at the net while McKinzie ***** had 14 service points and Kara ***** added 10 more. Please dismiss all 7th and 8th grade volleyball girls today at 2:45 for an away game at Washburn

Jr. High students without detentions during the 2nd quarter. Today is the last day to “vote” your teachers onto the cheerleading squad. Money will be accepted through lunch today. Students, Between 4th hour and lunch today, you will have an opportunity to sign up your team for basketball. There will be 2 boys teams and 2 girls teams for each grade level in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Please design your teams and pick your student coach, only if you have had no detentions during the 2nd quarter. Please check in the office if you aren’t sure. The sign up will be on the office windows between 4th hour and lunch. It will be first come, first served.

Jr. High students without detentions during the 2nd quarter. Your “fun day” has been planned but we need your help. There will be a basketball tournament scheduled. Your teachers would like to be cheerleaders for you, but we want you to choose who makes the team! Clean out your piggy banks through tomorrow, Thursday, and vote for your cheerleading squad with your coins and dollar bills at lunch time. We will take the top 6 to perform and cheer on the teams in the tournament.

Thank you to the chorus students who turned in their solo & ensemble contest fees in a timely manner. Reminder that IGSMA Organization contest is coming up in 10 more days.

The 7th grade girls volleyball team won another game last night against Robein 25-9, 25-10. Delaney **** led the Redbirds with 18 service points and Kellie **** had 12 service points. Congrats to the 8th grade girls as well for their win last night. Practice today after school.

Please use only the cafeteria today during lunch time as the AP room will be used for the Tazwood Conference Spelling Bee. The cafeteria is the only room to be used during lunch time.

Congratulations to the 8th grade VB team as the ladies won the Woodford County Tournament on Sat. Keep up the good work girls!! The Lady Redbirds play tonight at home at 5:00 against Robein.

There will be no ineligibility table at lunch today. This will begin again tomorrow. 7th and 8th graders, you will also be given an opportunity to show your strong sides today at lunch. You will not have to sit in your assigned seats today, since our lunch routine will be a bit different today. Please make sure that you show you can handle it today. This goes for 7th and 8th grade only!

Tonight is Jr. High movie night. If you have your pillow and blanket, it needs to be in a bag, with your name on it, and put on the stage in the Frisk Gym. Please remember that all school rules apply for tonight or you will be asked to leave. We hope that all permission slips have been turned in. If we haven’t received one, you will not be allowed to attend.

Congratulations to our 6th grade boys basketball team who won the Germantown Hills 6th Grade Boys tournament. They beat Germantown last night in the championship round of games 36-21.

All movie night permission slips need to be to Miss Cotton yesterday of this week. No phone calls can be made to grant permission over the phone either. It needs to be the slip with a parent signature. If you do not have a slip, you will not have permission to attend on Friday.

Explore the world, with Usborne Books. The Book Fair will be at MGS until Friday, Feb, 13. We will be open from 8:30 am-4:00 pm. On Thursday, Feb 12 we will be open until 7:00 pm.

Today will be a special event for Lincoln’s Birthday. There will be a simultaneous reading of the Gettysburg Address in the New Gym today. Please join us. It will begin promptly at 9:30. Teachers, please start bringing your classes to the New Gym between 9:00 and 9:10.

The GFWC Illinois Metamora-Germantown Hills Junior Woman's Club would like to thank the students, teachers and administration for their support in making the Valentine's for the Troops. There were 4000 Valentine's sent to our soldiers. From the Metamora-Germantown Hills area we collected 1341 Valentine's. The students at Metamora Grade made 659 of those Valentine's. We really appreciate all your help and support for making this project a success.

The 7th grade girls volleyball team defeated Peoria Christian last night 25-18, 25-16. Delaney **** had 11 service points and Brooke **** also had 11 service points. Congratulations on another win! The Lady Redbirds play Germantown Hills today at home.

Solo & Ensemble vocalists, please sign up for your practice session on the sheets outside the music room. The lesson schedule will be up as well. Piano players do not have to sign up for a practice slot. Ensembles start talking, we must consolidate some of the duets to double duets. There was a typo in the note that went home. Regarding any notes releasing from the bus ride home to go with your parents: "must be received prior to February 27, 2009, not 2008!

Congratulations to the 8th grade Vb team on their big win over DeeMack last night! The 7th grade girls volleyball team lost their first game last night against Dee-Mack in two matches. Delaney ****, Jordan ****, and Melissa **** all had 4 service points. Practice tonight after school until 5.

Mrs. Evans is not here this morning, so please do not send any students to see her. She will hopefully be back this afternoon.

Congratulations to our two spelling bee winners, Daniel **** and Michael ****. Daniel got first place and Michael got second. Out of 31 spellers, these boys outspelled them all. They will advance to both the Tazwood and the Woodford Co. bees coming up later in February.

Thank you to everyone that helped make this years "Soup"er Bowl a success. On behalf of MGS, the student council will be donating 14 boxfulls of canned foods to the area food bank!

Miss Reed would like to have a VERY BRIEF meeting with all scholastic bowl members today during lunch.

In a battle to the very last second, the 8th grade boys basketball team defeated Fieldcrest by one point in overtime, 39-38 in the first round of regionals. After losing to fieldcrest by 23 points early in the season, the boys showed tremendous character by believing in themselves, and working hard. Christian ***** led the Redbirds with 14 points, while Sam ***** and Dekota ***** had over ten rebounds each. The boys play Chillicothe in the semi-final game at 7:15 tonight.

7th grade girls volleyball practice is cancelled today after school. See Coach Horner for any questions about the game on Tuesday.

According to a German superstition, if a hibernating animal casts a shadow on Feb. 2, winter will last another 6 weeks. If no shadow is seen, spring will come soon. This morning, our national groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania cast a shadow, therefore 6 more weeks of winter.
