Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - Daily Announcements

Lunch today are tacos.

MTHS will have open gym for girls' basketball this summer on Wednesdays from 7:00 - 8:30pm at the High School's South Gym. Open Gyms will start June 3 and finish July 22. These open gyms are for students entering 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

Softball tryouts will be held over the summer on Monday, July 27th and Tuesday, July 28th from 9-11am. Ladies you must bring a copy of your current physical before you will be able to try out. No exceptions! If you have any questions please see Coach Horner. Baseball tryout information will be handed out by Coach Hess later this week.

K-3 you are invited to the recorder assembly this afternoon. The assembly will begin at 1:45. If you would like to attend please bring your classes down to the new gym by 1:40. You will not be called down via the intercom.

A special thanks to all the students, teachers, and Ms. Jackson for helping to make our end of year assembly so much fun. A special thanks to Mr. Hess for announcing on this day.
Please remember that because of snow days, our school year has been extended. We will be attending school all week this week, and Monday and Wednesday of next week. Wednesday, June 3rd will be our last day. Remind your parents when you get home tonight.

Cheerleaders, there will be a mandatory meeting from 3:15 to about 4:00 p.m. in Mrs. McIntosh's room on Friday, May 22nd.

Anyone interested in Cross Country for next year, including current 4th and 5th graders, please see Mr. Koonce in the next couple of days for information.

Congratulations to the 5th DARE participants and their teachers Mrs. Mata, Mrs. Southerland, Ms. Cotton, and Mrs. Wilson. The songs and the band performance were "top-notch" which were directed by Ms. Trotter and Mrs. Markle. The raps, essays, and your behavior were beautifully executed. Again, a very, very nice program!!

Students, the castle and chains are still up from the graduation dance last Friday night. They will remain up until after graduation on Tuesday night. Please do not touch them or mess with them, as our dance committee worked very hard on them.

Thank you to the faculty and staff who attended graduation last night. I am sure the 8th graders appreciated seeing you there. An extra thank you to our 6th and 7th graders who helped out in directing our graduates as well as playing an instrument and singing during the ceremony.

Good luck and congratulations to our 5th graders as they graduate from the DARE program today.

THANK YOU Prep Chorus members for a wonderful representation of Metamora Grade School yesterday on the choral tour. Your discipline and hard work/efforts was evident at each venue--greatlyappreciated! . On behalf of Peoria Superintendent Brookhart and the Spring CelebrationBoard, a purple Fine Arts cap was awarded to Ms. Jackson on her retirement and support of the fine arts here at MGS. Wear it with pride and remember the choruses and bands fondly who make music rock at MGS! Students in grades 2 thru 5 with Chorus T-shirt orders/money, pleasebring to Mrs. Markle this morning.

The Woodford County Historical Society is collecting pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to help the village of Metamora secure the final donations to purchase the Abraham Lincoln Statue that will be erected by the Metamora Courthouse on the square. They are asking students from all of the local schools to help. Please bring your coins and place them in the jug in the main office. Help history come alive in Metamora!

Boys and girls, please remember to sneeze or cough into the inside of your arm. Don’t drink after others. Wash your hands frequently throughout the day, but especially before you eat!

Congratulations to the Prep Chorus and Jr. High Chorus on an awesome spring concert last evening. Very proud of your charisma and efforts—it showed thru each song. Bravo!

A reminder that the Jr. High Chorus will be on tour at Eureka MapleLawn, East Peoria Riverview Retirement and downtown at the Monument on theCourthouse square. We will return so the Band will finish out the dayperforming in the gym for K-5.

Jr. High students, please remember your lunch tickets everyday. You will not be allowed back into your homerooms, unless your teacher is in there, to get your ticket.

All students who are picked up in the back, please make sure that your parents are pulled up to the curb. You are not allowed to leave the sidewalk until the car is completely stopped at the curb. Also, in the mornings, please make sure that your parents are pulling ahead so that we can get as many cars dropping off at the same time.

Jr. High Chorus members please turn in your T-shirt money today. 2. Spring Choral Concert is tomorrow night at 7 p.m. Be here at 6:40 p.m. to check-in. Wear your concert T's: NO flip-flops, NO shorts! Re-read your note in regards to this!

Congratulations to the jazz bands on their awesome performances at Jazz Night Friday Night! You were great! Good luck to the jazz bands as they travel to downtown Peoria to perform today. Please dismiss band members at 11:15 for this performance.

Heading into the last day of competition in the RED versus BLACK Challenge in Boy's PE, the BLACK team has battled back to take a one-point lead, 26-27. In a turn of events, in 4th grade PE, both BLACK Teams won their basketball games, when Jacob ***** hit a shot to break the tie for the win. Good luck during the last day of competition and continue the good sportsmanship.
Good luck to our 4th Grade recorders and 5th Grade Band as they perform on their Spring Concert tonight! Recorders should meet in their classrooms at 6:45 and Band members should meet in the band room at 6:30.

Don’t forget students that our book fair is going on this week also. Tonight is a special family night activity with the book fair. Bring a picnic and read your favorite books. If you’re interested in attending, please see Mrs. Tyler for more details.

After two days of competition in the Red versus Black Challenge in Boy's PE classes, the Red team is clinging to its one point lead 17-16. At this point it looks as though each point is crucial, so don't forget about those spirit and sportsmanship points.

There is 5th Grade Full Band rehearsal today at 1:15. Don't forget your instruments!

Jr. High T-shirt money is due today. Ensembles-- 8th grade double duet will practice first at recess then our first national anthem practice.

This week in Physical Education, boys 4th through 8th grade PE classes are competing in the Red versus Black Challenge. Each boy is placed on either the Red or Black Team and will compete in events all week to see which team can collect the most points. The boys are competing against the opposite colored team in all of the grade levels. Good luck to all participants. After the first day of competition the Red Team has a one-point advantage, 8-7.

There will be no Jazz Band II rehearsal this morning or band lessons. Students should go to PE/health this morning. There will be recorders and band this afternoon. You do not need your instruments. 5th Grade Band..make sure you have your instruments tomorrow. There will be full band at 1:15 tomorrow.
