Daily Announcements - Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Lunch today is a sub sandwich.

Boys basketball open gyms after school until 4:30, Monday through Thursday until tryouts on the 19th. 6th Grade boys are invited to attend as well, but open gyms will end mid-October when the regular season begins. You will need physicals and cannot be ineligible to attend if you do not have one.

Athletes who are indoors for practices. Please make sure that you do not arrive too early for practices. You have a start time for practices that have been given to you by your coaches. You are to be supervised by your coaches, not running around the building before your practices begin. Keep an eye on the time, making sure you are not here too early.

Friday afternoon the Cross Country teams ran at Detweiller Park in Peoria. The girls’ team finished 7th and the boys were 17th out of 38 schools participating. Gabby finished 21st overall and brought home a medal for the girls. Ashlyn, Quinn, Brooke, Gillian, Jessica, and Sarah completed the scoring for the girls’s varsity team. In the girls open race Emily, Madalyn, and Paige placed in the top 20 finishers and winning an individual medal for themselves. There were 224 girls running in the open race. The boys ran against some of the best competition in the state and over half the schools ahead of them were double A schools. Scoring for the boys were Joel, John, Matthew, Isaiah, Nate, Matt, and John.

Congratulations to our softball girls on the end of their season. It was an outstanding one. You played well, with skill, and with determination. The girls played the first round of games at the State Softball tournament on Friday evening after rain delays. They, however, lost their game on Friday night.

All Pom Girls need to stop by Mrs. Peck's room today for information about the parade.

Speech Team members....PLEASE check the information posted outside Mrs. L. Anglin's room ASAP! There are still a few students who have not turned in important information.. Also, we would like you to make sure we have the correct information listed....especially regarding your EVENT CHOICES! Let us know if something needs to be changed! We hope to get scripts to you sometime next week!

Marching Band members don't forget your black shoes, black socks and black gloves for the parade tomorrow. Wear your band t-shirt to school. Picture order forms are due tomorrow.

Students interested in riding the fan bus tomorrow for Softball who did not pick up a permission slip needs to stop by the office this morning. If you aren’t able to go, but would be interested in going on Saturday if we win on Friday, stop by the office as well.

Speech Team members: Please see the information posted outside Mrs. Anglin's room. This is the most up-to-date information we have regarding each individual involved. We are missing important information from several of you, such as your contract, fees, t-shirt sizes, and even
script choices. The deadline was Monday! See us immediately...we will be turning in our final count soon! Also, HOLD TIGHT! Scripts will be arriving soon! WE WILL FIND YOU WHEN THEY ARE IN!

Color guard practice will be on Thursday this week, not on Wednesday!

The Cross Country teams had another very good night. The boys finished third in the conference between Tremont and Eureka. Scoring for the boys were Joel, John, Matthew, Isaiah, Matthew, John, and Nate. The Girls teams won their race with a point total of 39. Four girls brought home medals by finishing in the top 10. The girls finished in the following order.

Girls basketball practices for both teams will be after school until 5:30 on Tuesday thru Thursday. Our team photos will be Wednesday morning at 7:30am in New Gym. You should bring both uniforms.

The Redbird Classic Invitational Meet was held Friday evening at Black Partridge Park and the Running Redbirds made a very good showing. In the varsity boys race Joel and John brought home a fourth and sixth place medal for themselves and led the boys team to a second place finish in the ten team race. Brimfield won the team race followed by MGS and Morton was third overall. Isaiah, John, and Matt all held scoring positions for the boys team. The varsity girls won the team event. The girls scored 34 points, Washington finished second with 61, and Morton Junior High was third with 90 points. The girls placed five runners in the top 15. Gabby was fourth, Ashlyn was fifth, Quinn was 7th, Brook was ninth, and Gillian was 13th. Finishing the scoring for the girls was Jessica and Sara. Matthew and Audrey won the boys and girls open race. Several boys and girls brought home medal for MGS in the Open Race. Congratulations Runners. Cross Country team will be going to the Taz-wood Conference meet at Tremont this afternoon, weather permitting. Please excuse all runners at 2:20 to change and the bus will leave at approximately 2:30. Thanks teachers for your cooperation!

The boys baseball teams season ended Sat. with a 7-4 loss to Fieldcrest. Michael, Jacob, Geremy, and Braden all had two hits each but it was not enough to come back from an early deficit. Thanks for all of the hard work this season, and please turn in uniforms to Coach Hess this week.

The Lady Redbirds defeated Stanford-Olympia on Saturday for the sectional championship 6-3. Abby had 3 hits including a triple, Racheland Kara both added a hit. Delaney had 6 strikeouts. The Redbirds play Friday at 2:00 at Champions Field in Normal. Come out and support them as they head to state for the 3rd year in a row.

Junior High students, we are looking at possibly taking a fan bus for Friday or Saturday’s game. However, we want to gather some interest before we make that commitment. As you know, the Homecoming Parade is also on Friday afternoon, the same time as the softball game. So, if there is a fan bus, you will be missing the parade. Please stop by the Jr. High office and sign up if you might be interested in going on the fan bus. This is not a definite thing yet, we just want to find out numbers.

Cold lunch should line up first. Any student who comes in to the cafeteria but is not in line with his or her homeroom should make sure the he or she tells Mrs. Noll because of the computer recording procedure.

Dance girls, if you didn’t stop by to see Mrs. Peck yesterday regarding homecoming, please do so today.

The Lady Redbirds captured their regional title last night in a very close game winning 4-3 in the 7th inning over Canton Ingersoll. Kara had a double in the 7th inning to get things started and McKinzie, Rachel, and Jenna finished the game by bringing in 2 runs. The girls play this Saturday at Olympia High School at 1:00. Please come support your Lady Redbirds!

The girls softball team won their second round of regionals Saturday against Germantown Hills 6-0. Megan and Abby both had 2 hits and Delaney, Kara and Jordan each had 1 hit. The Lady Redbirds play today here at MGS against Canton Ingersoll at 4:15 for the regional championship. Come out and support your lady redbirds.

Attention all students joining the MGS Speech Team:All students interested in monologues, duets, and small groups need to meet today in Mrs. L. The first meeting for all 2009-2010 Student Council members on Tuesday, September 15 @ 7:30 am in Mrs. Peck's room.

The boys baseball team defeated roanoke benson last night 2-0, thanks to big hits by Ethan and Klay who each went 2 for 3. Braden pitched a shutout with 8 strikeouts and only giving up three hits. Practice tonight until 4:30.

Both the boys and girls had a good night at Black Partridge. The girls’ team finished first in the five team race and the boys finished second to a very good Tremont team. Competing against MGS were Tremont, Washington Central, Saint Joseph, and South Pekin. Joel lead the boys and Ashlyn finished first for the girls. The team runs at Parkside in Normal tomorrow. The bus leaves at 7:00 AM and the varsity girls run at 9:30.

The lady Redbirds play Germantown Hills tomorrow morning in the 2nd round of Regional Softball play. They play here at MGS at 10:00. Come out and cheer on the ladies to another win!

The boys baseball team got back on the winning track by defeating Tremont last night 4-2. Geremy pitched a complete game with 5 strike outs. Dylan had a key hit and the two winning RBI's to seal the win for the Redbirds. Last home game tonight against Roanoke-Benson.

Again the boys and girls cross country teams had a very good day Saturday. In the 17team competition the girls finished fifth overall and first in Class A. The boys finished boys finished 9 overall and 3 in class A. Girls were lead by Gabby, Ashlyn, Brooke, Jessica, Maria, Gillian, and Sarah. Gabby brought home a medal in the varsity race and Joanna medaled in the open race. The boys were lead by Joel, John , Matt, John, Nate, Matt, and Pat. Great effort runners. The cross country team runs at El Paso today. The bus leaves at 2:00 PM. Please dismiss runners at 1:45 to change.
