Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - Daily Announcements

Lunch today is mac and cheese.

Penny Wars are going on right now in your foyers. K-5 donation bins are in the front foyer and 6-8 are in the Jr. High foyer. All money goes to St. Jude.

Thank you to all who were part of the Red Cross Blood Drive last night. We collected over 100 units of blood. Although our numbers were down from previous years, the drive was still a success. Thank you to all students who were able to have someone donate. You are the reason our blood drive is so successful. Prizes will be calculated today and we will get them ordered. Those prizes will not arrive until after Spring Break.

6th Grade Band...orchestra permission slips and money need to be turned in to Miss Trotter by Thursday.

Jr. High students, your fun day is tomorrow afternoon. The gift card drawing will also be tomorrow before the fun day begins. Have your coupons ready, the boxes will be out today and tomorrow. There will also be ice cream and concession stand items sold at tomorrow’s movie day for fun day. Remember, you could not have received a detention or suspension (either after school, lunch/recess, or on the bus) during the 3rd quarter in order to be eligible. If you would like to take part in the fun day concession stand, you will need to bring your money!

Tonight, is our 4th annual American Red Cross Blood Drive. If you have not gotten your names of donors turned in, please do so today. The blood drive will be held from 2-7. Thank you to all of you who are helping or have gotten donors for the drive.

Track members, there will be a bus tonight to the high school leaving from the west side of the building. This is different than what you were previously told. The bus will leave MGS tonight at 3:30 for your meet up at the high school. Also, your uniforms will be ready for pick-up after school today as well. Immediately after school today, please head to the new gym foyer so that you can get your uniforms and be ready to go to the high school.

Tomorrow night, Tuesday, is our 4th annual American Red Cross Blood Drive. If you have not gotten your names of donors turned in, please do so. You have until tomorrow morning for that. We appreciate all of your hard work in getting people signed up. The blood drive will be held from 2-7.

Teachers, please dismiss Festival Chorus singers at 9:50 a.m. this morning. You will be back at noon today. Do not forget singers that you are responsible for getting the work that you will miss while you are gone. Please make sure you do that today so that you are prepared for class tomorrow. Get all missing work today before you leave to go home.

Calling all 7th and 8th grade students. The MGS Carnival needs your help. Pick up a volunteer sheet in the Jr. High office. You can help in 2 ways… set up for the carnival next Friday, or work a booth (face painters or balloon animal makers needed) on Saturday, March 20th. Ice cream sundae and root beer float party for all who help. Thank you in advance for helping out your school.

Student Council Members need to stop by Mrs. Peck's room to sign up for a Blood Drive Shift. If you have your donor forms filled out, please give them to your teacher so that we can begin signing people up.
Staff members, if you are interested in a particular time, from 2-7, please let Mrs. Schneider know.

All 7th and 8th grade volleyball players need to turn in their uniforms to Coach Horner by this Friday.

Congratulations to Katelynn for receiving a 1st place finish in the Metamora Woman's Club Art Contest. Her drawing will go on to the District Art Contest and be displayed at the GFWC state convention May 20-22.

Congratulations to Andrew for getting a 2nd and 3rd place finish in the Metamora Women's club art Contest. His entry will also go on to The GFWC art contest and be displayed

What a great week! The leading class is 4B! Next in line is KD and then KA. Only 10 packs of tickets separate them. Jr High class leader is 7C, just ahead of 8D by 1 pack of tickets! Top sellers last week were Morgan for K-5 and Jackson for Jr. High. All tickets must be turned in on Fri.

8th graders, please remember that your Josten’s money for graduation is due today. If you forgot yours, then please write yourself a note in your agendas to get them turned in tomorrow so that we can send them off to Josten’s.

Boys and girls Track will start on the 10th, meeting in the gym foyer. Schedules for this week are available in the Jr. High office.

The bus for the 8th grade regional volleyball game in Gridley on Tuesday, March 9th leaves at 4:30. All 7th & 8th grade volleyball girls need to be back to the school by 4:15.

Attention yearbook members: We will be having a yearbook meeting on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:45 in Mrs. E's room. Please come prepared with days that you can come in before school or stay after school to work on the computer.

Attention 8th graders: Please bring in pictures of yourself from babyhood to present day! Do not bring in more than 10 pictures! Turn in the pictures to Mrs. E by Friday, March 12 with your name on them. They will be returned to you as soon as we get them scanned!

Please announce that any girl going into 6th through 8th grade interested in trying out for cheerleading should pick up a cheer packet from the junior high office this week. Practices begin on the 15th of March and tryouts are on Thursday, March 18th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Today is the last day to turn in Homer's Reading Logs. Order forms for your free tickets will be handed out Monday, March 22. Your prizes will be mailed with your tickets.

Please announce on Tuesday…..Mrs. McIntosh needs to see all cheerleaders at lunch today in her classroom. Please report there before going outside or to lunch.

Our overall classes are very close, KD is in the lead with 250, KA is right behind with 205 and 2E has 190. In Jr. High 7C is leading with 6B right behind as well. Keep selling.

The Illinois Grade School Music Association Solo & Ensemble Contest is next Saturday, March 13, at Illinois Central College. MGS once again will present the most entries. Congrats on your desire to become better musicians! Good luck singers and pianists!

Fifth grade singers from Prep Chorus--please see Mrs. Markle if you were absent or missed the photo shoot and did not receive your medals and scoresheets.

Prep Chorus bring study materials with you. You will be reading or working on something. If you need to get caught up with assignments or work on a project, this would be an excellent time to get help and get it done! If you need a pass, please get one in the morning or at recess. Mrs. Markle will be working with the ensembles and soloists. If you have nothing to do, you must fill out and score the events that are performing in the room--those will be graded.

Excellent job to both scholastic bowl teams on wins against Riverview last night. Miss Reed is proud.

Congratulations to our Prep and Jr. High Choruses on receiving all "1sts" from each judge resulting in "DIVISION I" outstanding ratings at the IGSMA Organization Contest. The Prep Chorus was the top scoring youth group and earned "Best of Day" over all performing groups. The Jr. High Chorus scored well, too, earning 'perfects' for interpretation and musicianship, technique/diction and stage presentation. The students displayed excellent behavior and manner in a all venues which was appreciated by Morton staff and parents. BRAVO to all!

The 7th grade girls volleyball team ended their season Saturday against the very tough Germantown Hills Warriors. The girls had an overall record of 11 wins and 10 losses, making a tremendous improvement from the beginning of the season to the end winning 6 of their last 9 games. Great job girls!

Please remember that track will begin March 8. Please be ready with an updated physical on file in the Jr. High office.
