Friday, January 30, 2009 - Daily Announcements

Lunch today is a sub sandwich. Monday is pork fritter (tenderloin sandwich).

Jr. High students, don’t forget that there is a Winter Wonderland Dance today here at MGS. The dance is from 6-8. All school rules apply. If you do not follow rules, you will be asked to leave. Please have your rides here by 8:00.

There is also a reminder that I-Pods, MP3 Players, and all gaming devices are not to be here at school at any time. This includes the bus and after school activities. Several students are beginning to bring them to school with them, but this is not allowed. Please keep those things at home.

Today is also our special assembly with motivational productions. Please follow the schedule that was emailed to you earlier this week by Mrs. Costello.

Solo & Ensemble vocalists, please sign up for your practice session on the sheets outside the music room. The lesson schedule will be up as well. Piano players do not have to sign up for a practice slot. Ensembles start talking, we must consolidate some of the duets to double duets. There was a typo in the note that went home. Regarding any notes releasing from the bus ride home to go with your parents: "must be received prior to February 27, 2009, not 2008!

Students, did you know that making prank phone calls to 911 from your home or cell phones will get you into trouble? The police will investigate the calls when they are pranks. Please be aware that you are only to call 911 when there is an emergency, not as a joke. This is also a reminder that all cell phones are to be put away in your lockers and turned off. Cell phones are not to be out or in use while on the buses, at any time. You were all told that in October during our bus safety lessons.

The 7th grade girls volleyball team won another game last night against Pekin-Edison 25-20, 25-23. Kara ***** led the lady Redbirds with 15 service points, Delaney ***** added 8, and Brooke ****** added 6. Practice tonight until 5.

Congratulations to our 6th grade boys who took 1st place in the Dunlap Middle School Tourney on Saturday. They will begin another tournament tonight at Dee Mack. Boys, if you did not get a copy of that tournament schedule last week or this weekend, please see me in the office today.

Our 7th grade boys ended their season on Saturday with a tough loss to Fieldcrest. Their final score was 35-37. Great season this year boys. We are proud of you. Please make sure that you have your uniforms and all equipment cleaned and returned to coach Rauh this week.

Jr. High Students, while you are in the AP room in the mornings, please do not touch the light switches on the wall. If it happens by accident, please turn the switches back on, but it will take a minute or two to warm back up.

8th graders, you need to bring your Mr. Z’s packets with you to the cafeteria first hour. You will be introduced to the product this morning.

7th graders, do not forget that you are going on a field trip tomorrow and that all students need to have a sack lunch.

Student Council members that are going sell candy bars need to stop in Miss Cotton's room to pick them up.

Also, Friday is PTO Family Fun Night. There will be Open Gym activities in all 3 gyms. All families and teachers are welcome to attend. However, if you are coming, you need to be here with a parent. No students will be allowed without parent supervision. You will be asked to leave.

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th volleyball teams who defeated Eureka last night. Both teams remain undefeated. The 7th grade girls won another tough game last night against the Eureka Hornets 25-22, 15-25, 25-22. Delaney ***** led the Redbirds with 16 service points, Abby ***** added 2 blocks, and Brooke ***** came in to serve the game winning point. Congratulations girls on another win. Practice tonight until 5.

Pep band will perform at the last home basketball game tonight. Band members should meet in the band room at 4:30.

1. 7th and 8th graders, you will no longer be allowed to play on the spinner outside on the playground when you are outside. There have been too many injuries on that piece of equipment, so it is off limits to all 7th and 8th graders when you are outside until further notice.

2. Cheerleaders, please stop by Mrs. McIntosh's room for a brief meeting today before your lunch or recess.

3. There will be no speech today. Mrs. Brown is out today.

4. Congratulations to our 6th grade boys basketball team who beat Dunlap Middle School in 2 games last night. They played very well as a team.

Lunch today is chicken fajitas.

1. A reminder to the 7th and 8th graders - the spinner outside is off limits at recess. There have been too many injuries. You are not to be on that particular piece of equipment until further notice.

2. The 7th grade and 8th grade girls volleyball teams won their game Friday night against Dunlap Valley 25-18, 25-19. Abby ***** led the Lady Redbirds with 12 service points, Jordan ****** was right behind her with 11, and Kara ***** added a block to put the Redbirds ahead. Practice tonight until 5.

2. Pep band will perform at the basketball game tonight. Band members should meet in the band room at 4:30.

3. The ladies defeated St. Pat's in volleyball action last night at all 3 levels. The 7th grade girls volleyball team defeated St. Pat's last night 25-19, 25-7. Abby ***** led the redbirds with 14 straight service points,including 3 aces. Jordan ***** also contributed with 11 service points. Practice today after school until 5.

2. No chorus students should be stopping by over recess today as Mrs. Markle is still home ill. Please turn in all chorus music--the titles are sorted in the room.

3. The 7th grade girls volleyball team won their home-opener last nightagainst St. Mary's 25-4, 25-6. Delaney ***** led the lady redbirds with19 service points and 6 aces. Brooke ***** added 6 service points, andMelissa ****** had 5 points.The girls play again tonight at St. Pat's in Washington at 4:15. Come out and support your lady redbirds. The 8th grade girls also won their season opener last night against St. Mary's.

Lunch today is a hamburger.


1. Tonight is our first home volleyball game at MGS for the season. Come out and cheer on our Lady Redbirds as they play St. Mary’s tonight. The first match begins at 4:00 in the New Gym.

2. The 8th grade boys basketball team defeated Riverview last night 53 - 20. Nick Danner had 8 points and Jeremy Bevard had 7 points to lead the Redbirds. The 7th grade boys also defeated Riverview 33-11. Both teams played well and showed good sportsmanship.
