Student Council members – if you are going to Convention, you have a meeting this Thursday, April 2 at 8:00 in Ms. Cotton’s room. All student council members please note that your April 14 meeting after spring break has been cancelled. However the dance committee has a meeting on April 15 at 7:45. Please make a note of that in your agendas.

Attention scholastic bowl members: Don't forget that we have a meet at East Peoria Central tonight. The bus will be leaving promptly at 3:00.

Adam *****, *th grader here at MGS, is the winner of the 35th annual young author’s contest here at MGS. Runners up were Amanda ***** and Blake *****. Congratulations to all who submitted an original piece.

The library will be closed today due to illness. Please do not send any classes to the library today.

Friday, March 27, 2009 - Daily Announcements

Just a reminder that shorts at school need to be school appropriate. This week is probably not a good week to come to school in shorts, as it’s going to get colder outside again. Watch the weather please! You will still be going outside for recess. Please make sure that you are also taking a coat or sweatshirt outside with you to recess.

When going to lunch today, 5th -8th graders, please use the main hall to enter the cafeteria. The All Purpose room and the hallway connecting the junior high and primary wings will be closed off to traffic.

The musical, The Sound of Music" is up and running at MTHS. It is aterrific production with absolutely beautiful voices. A majority of theleads graduated from our very own MGS choral dept. and were outstandingmusician recipients. There are three performances left: tonight, tomorrow both at 7p.m., andSunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for grade school students & senior citizensand $7 for adults.

Shorts, make sure that they are school appropriate. Place your hands by your sides and the bottom of your shorts should reach your fingertips.

As you may have noticed, areas of the building are being set up for the Carnival. Please do not touch any of the art work that is being put up in the hallway. Students are punching holes in the paper. All of you have worked very hard on that art work, so please take care of it in the hallways.

Congratulations to our musically talented ladies and gentlemen of the jr.high. On Saturday, March 14, forty-three 6th thru 8th & two 5th gradestudents concluded a long journey of preparation to compete in the 2009IGSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest held at Illinois Central College. Everyone performed splendidly!

Just a reminder that today is the early dismissal day. You will be dismissed early today at 11:35 and 11:40.

A reminder too that shorts are not allowed until the beginning of the 4th quarter, which is Monday of next week. Please remember that shorts are not allowed until next Monday. When you do begin wearing shorts, make sure that they are school appropriate. Place your hands by your sides and the bottom of your shorts should reach your fingertips.

8th graders your Mr. Z's fundraiser money is due tomorrow. Please be prepared. If you still owe Josten’s money, please see Mrs. Schneider. We will send it in tomorrow. If we don’t have an order, you won’t have a gown. If you haven’t registered for your high school classes either, and you have your green forms for registration, please get those to the office immediately.

Any 5th – 7th grade girl interested in trying out for cheerleading starting tomorrow, please stop by the junior high office to pick up the packet. Please note that you need the permission slip filled out and with you on the first day of tryouts or you will not be allowed to try out. You will also need a current physical on file with the junior high office in order to try out.

Track practice begins tonight. Please make sure that you are prepared with your physicals.

Homer's Reading Program has begun. This is week two. Junior High can pick up reading logs in the JH Office. The grand prize is a free ticket to a Peoria Chiefs Baseball game for each student that completes the Reading log and returns it to the Library by March 27, 2009.

Chorus members going to solo & ensemble contest. Please stop by the music room and pick up your packets of information and newly typed events schedule. Sign-up sheets with the time your parent can monitor our homeroom MUST BE TURNED in ASAP. Piano players: make sure your measures are numbered. Vocalists: make sure there are two copies of your song on thetable in front of the piano.

The bus for the 8th grade girls volleyball team leaves Tuesday at 4:40 for Fieldcrest. All 7th and 8th grade girls need to be here by 4:30.

It’s windy and still a little chilly when you go outside today. You definitely still need your coats or a sweatshirt when you go outside at recess. Jr. High students, if you don’t have it on when you go outside, you will be asked to come in and clean tables in the lunch room unless.

The Solo & Ensemble event schedule is in. Please stop by the chorus room and get your time, especially participants from Prep Chorus, since you haven't had class since Wed.

All Solo & Ensemble participants: This is your last weekend before contest. Practice and polish up on your lyrics, phrasing, dynamics & tonal placement. Check with Mrs. Markle about any current notes, numbered scores and Sat practice tomorrow. MOST IMPORTANT--take home the sign-up sheet for your parents in regards to monitoring the homeroom at ICC. It is the same set-up as years before--one hour shifts.

Thank you 4th and 5th grade music classes for the extra effort this week. Congrats to Class 4A-Mrs. White for maintaining the best participation, focus and discipline this grading period the past two grading periods. That effort is appreciated.

Congratulations to the Jr. High Chorus for pulling a rabbit out of thehat Friday at the IGSMA Organization Contest. Thank you to the sopranos whotook on the alto parts for missing people, to the baritones for working asbest you could short-handed, the soprano section for tonal energy andrhythmic drive, and to the altos for the extra effort and focus. Youreceived a Division I rating from two judges and a Division II from anotherfor an over-all Division I, 1st place rating. Your repertoire, musicianship,stage presentation, rhythmic precision and tone quality was tops. It paidoff to focus on these to make up for troublesome areas. You went on thestage with the right mentality and walked off with pride -- That's what itsall about.Drum-roll please--Congratulations to the Prep Chorus for receiving themost outstanding marks of the evening! You not only received a unanimousDivision I, 1st place rating from each judge, but pulled off two perfectscores!! That is truly awesome for a young group. You may not have noticed,but the judges gave YOU a 'standing ovation' as you left the stage. Bravofor the outstanding marks for tone quality, musicianship, rhythmic accuracy,diction and poised stage presentation. They absolutely loved 'Rhythm of theRain,' stating 'awesome use of instruments' and 'terrific performance.'Take a bow Preppies and smile today about what you have accomplished.

7th grade girls volleyball ended their season on Saturday at Regionals. They played well against a tough team and lost. Please remember that all uniforms need to be cleaned and given to Coach Horner in the next couple of days.


4th Hour – 6th grade Art needs to go to the All Purpose Room for Art today.
