Daily Announcements - Monday, August 31, 2009

Lunch today is a pork fritter.

Extracurricular

6th graders, when going to lunch, you need to stop at your lockers and drop off all of your books there. You should not be bringing books to lunch with you if possible. When you come in from recess, you can stop at your lockers again and get your afternoon materials.

There will be an informational meeting for anyone in 5th -8th grades interested in joining the MGS Speech Team on THURS. Sept 10th in Mrs L Anglin's Room #47 from 3:15 to 3:45. Join us for another great Speech season and bring a friend!! Bring your agenda & Make sure you have a ride scheduled to pick you up at 3:45. See you Sept 10th!! From Coach Anglin and Coach Brown

Both the boys and girls teams won the duel meet with Riverview Saturday. The girls won with a perfect score of 15. The girls finished 1,2,3,4,5,8, and 9. Ashlyn, Gabby, Gillian, Brooke, and Quinn were the top five scoring runners. Jessie and Joanna also figured in the scoring. The boys also won 25 to 32. Joel was the overall winner followed by John, Matt, John, Patrick, Matt, and Gavin.

Daily Announcements - Friday, August 28, 2009

Lunch today is a corn dog.

The boys baseball team lost to Germantown last night 7-12. Being down 5-0 in the first three innings, the Redbirds did not give up and battled back to tie the game at five and then again at 7, but a big hit by the opponent in the sixth inning was the difference. Klay was 3 for 3 to lead the Redbirds, while Michael had two hits of his own. Away game tonight at Midland.

The softball team defeated Germantown Hills 9-1 last night. Abby led the Redbirds with a triple, 2 RBI's, and a single. Delaney wasn't far behind with a double and a single, Jordan also had 3 singles, Kara had 2 singles, and McKinzie added a
single. Please dismiss all softball girls today at 2:30 for an away game in Dunlap.

Congratulations to all our new 5th Grade Band members!!! We had almost 70% of the 5th grade sign up for band while the national average is only 8%!! Way to go 5th Grade!!! If you were unable to come to sign-ups last night and want to be in band please see Miss Trotter today. Thanks so much!

Both the boys and girls competed very hard last night at Black Partridge. The girls won their contest over Morton and Riverview. The boys were second to Morton. Placing in the top seven for the girls were Gabby, Ashlyn, Quinn, Gillian, Brooke, Jessica, and Sarah. Gabby was second overall with a time of 14:53 Placing for the boys was Joel, Matt, John, John, Patrick, Matt, and Blake. Joel was the winner of the boys race with a time of 14:08. The teams are looking stronger all the time.

The boys baseball team defeated Washington Middle School last night 10-0. Jacob **** led the redbirds with four hits. Austin **** and Geremy **** each had two hits for the Redbirds. Away game tonight against Germantown.

The Lady Redbirds won their 10th straight game last night against District 50 7-0. Abby **** and Jordan **** both had doubles, and Megan ****,Kim ****, Kara ****, Jenna ****, and Jade **** each had hits. Delaney **** struck out 7 batters with only 1 walk. The girls play again today at home against Germantown Hills. Please dismiss all softball girls at 2:45 today for team pictures.

Lunch today is a deli turkey sandwich.

Junior High students, the “hungry man” lunches are available to you. That’s where you stop into the Jr. High office before school in the morning, pay an extra $1, and at lunch you will get an extra serving of the main entre. Mrs. Schneider will give you a hungry man ticket to hang on to until lunch.

The boys baseball team defeated Dee Mack yesterday, 10-0 in 5 innings. Geremy ***** pitched a great game with 8 strike outs, and did his part with the bat hitting two doubles for the Redbirds. Dylan *****, Ethan *****, and Austin ***** all had two hits as well. Away tonight against Washington Middle. Please dismiss all baseball boys at 2:50 for the game.

The Lady Redbirds won a very close game last night against Dee Mack 2-0. Abby ***** and Jordan ***** each contributed a hit, and Rachel ***** had 4 assists filling in at 2nd base. The girls play again today at home at 4:15 against Washington District 50.

Don’t forget students that your handbook acknowledgement forms were due last week. If you still need a copy of the handbook or the acknowledgement form, please ask your teacher.

Junior High students, don’t forget that the “hungry man” lunches are available to you. 8th graders, please remember that you are not to use the 3/4th grade hallway when going out to recess. You need to use the hallway by the AP room. You need to go all the way down the Jr. High hall and exit outside of the doors in the Kind. hallway.

The boys and girls cross country teams had their first meet last night and both teams performed very well. The boys team finished second to East Peoria in a very close contest losing by just one point, 27 to 28. The boys were lead by Joel *****, Matt *****, Matt *****, John *****, Pat *****, Nate *****, and Gavin *****. All the boys had a good run. The girls won their meet 23 to 35 with six girls finishing in the top ten. Ashlyn ****** lead the team and also won the race in a very good first meet time of 14:01. Gabby ***** and Quinn ***** were third and fourth, Brooke ***** (7), Gil ***** (8), Sarah ***** (9), and Jessie ***** (11) scored for the team. This was a great start to our season.

All JH students enrolled in art, band, and chorus during study hall need to report to the AP room at the beginning of study hall today. We have some scheduling issues to deal with.

The Lady Redbirds defeated East Peoria Central last night 1-0. Delaney ***** led the Redbirds with 2 hits and Abby ***** added a hit. Jordan ***** had 5 assists and Megan ***** had 4 assists. Congratulations on a great win girls. They play at home today at 4:15 against Dee Mack.

The boys baseball team battled back in the late innings yesterday to make it a ball game, but came up short losing to East Peoria 6-8. Jacob *****, Ethan *****, and Dylan ***** had two hits each for the Redbirds. Home game tonight against Dee Mack.

Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader interested in color guard, see Mrs.Mata ASAP! Practice is going to start this week!

Don’t forget students that your handbook acknowledgement forms were due last week. If you still need a copy of the handbook or the acknowledgement form, please ask your teacher.

8th graders, please remember that you are not to use the 3/4th grade hallway when going out to recess. You need to use the hallway by the AP room. You need to go all the way down the Jr. High hall and exit outside of the doors in the Kind. hallway.

The cross country team will leave from the East side of the school at 3:00 PM. and that the runners should be dismissed to changed into their uniforms at 2:45 and exit out the east doors to the play grounds. Runners remember to bring everything you might need to take home, many of you will ride home with parents after the meet. Runners be sure to sign up for your team shirt. Mr. Koonce needs your sizes.
Back to School Night is tonight beginning at 6:30 for all 2nd – 5th graders and 7/8th graders. It begins at 6:30 and ends at 7:30. We hope to see everyone there.

Any cross country runner who needs a ride to Black Partridge Park after school needs to go to Mr. Koonce’s room (room 46) after school. Mr. Vieck will be there to monitor. A bus will be made available at 3:50 to take you to Black Partridge Park. You need to be dressed for practice and have everything you need to take home with you. Please use this time in Mr. Koonce’ room to work on any homework you may have. You are not to be roaming the building.

Jr. High Chorus (7th/8th) will meet last hr. today. Thank you 6th graders who came down for Prep Chorus yesterday. Great job on warm-ups! Keep it up newbies! There are ten T-shirts left from the Prep & Jr. High Chorus re-orders. If you ordered a Chorus T-shirt last May and did not receive it yet, please come down to the chorus room today so Mrs. Markle can check your name off.

Good luck to our 5th graders as they try out instruments for band today! Have fun!

All "Handbook Acknowledgement Forms" are due to homeroom teachers by Friday. If you do not have access to view the Internet version of our handbook, stop in the office for a copy along with the signature page. We would be happy to get you a copy.

Lunch today is Ravioli. Tomorrow is a cheese quesadilla.

Congrats to our softball team who remains undefeated. They won their game last night against Midland, 6-2. Delaney and Kara both had 2 hits while Abbey and Megan each had one. No practice today, but there is a double header tomorrow. Come out and support your Lady Redbirds.

Our boys have a home baseball game tonight against Roanoke Benson. - Postponed until September 10 due to weather.

A bus will be available after school for those cross country runners who need a ride out to Black Partridge Park. It will leave school at 3:50 p.m. Mr. Vieck will supervise you after school in Mr. Koonce's classroom. Be dressed and ready for practice. Have all of your materials ready to take with you to go home.
