The 8th grade volleyball team defeated Tremont last night. Melissa led the team with 12 service points. The 7th grade team fell short in 3 tough matches. Isabelle led her team with 19 service points and 10 aces.

Singers please bring in your bus release slips today (for those not taking the bus home from contest.) Reminder that Choral Organization Contest is this Friday.

Great job to all scholastic bowl members on well played matches against St. Mary's. While B team had a close loss, the A team pulled through with a huge win.

The 7th grade volleyball team placed 3rd in the Woodford County Tournament this past weekend. The Redbirds defeated Roanoke-Benson Friday night putting them in the winners bracket for Saturday. They fell short again the very tough El Paso Gridley team, but came back to beat Germantown Hills in 3 matches to bring home 3rd place. Congratulations girls on a very tough weekend. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams all play at Germantown Hills today at 4:15.

Please dismiss all 7th and 8th grade volleyball girls today at 2:30 for an away game at Tremont.

8th graders will be heading to the high school today for their orientation day. They will be leaving after announcements and will not return until after 2:00 today. Students please remember that this is the high school’s first impression of you. Listen and learn about what they have to tell you. The buses are waiting outside on Madison Street. Students, please take your coats and your lunch money, and line up at the back doors of the Junior High.

If so... come check out the MTHS Marching Band Color Guard Clinic on Monday, February 22, 2010 From 6-8. Want to learn more? This introductory clinic is open to all students;( incoming Freshman through Juniors). Meet at the High School Band Room 304. NO Auditions or Dance experience necessary. Can’t attend, but interested? …. Contact Mr. Render by email or stop by the High School RM 304. Join in on the fun. We're looking for at least 25 students to join the elite Color Guard.

DRUM LINE: Did you see the battle of the DrumLines & Bands at the State Football Championship? Marching Band is SWEET!!! Do you think you have what it takes to play in a real DrumLine. If so come to our 1st Marching Band Drum Line clinic of the year on Monday, February 22, 2010 from 6-8. Meet at the High School band Room 304. We will play, discuss auditions, and plan for next year. Thank you Jr. High Chorus for showing your appreciation and giving Mr. Cheek your utmost attention yesterday during his visit. Hope you enjoyed working with him. He gave us some very good things to work on to improve our performance. ALL Jr. High Chorus members come immediately down to the chorus room at 12:12 bell today. Mrs. Markle will dismiss you to the
cafeteria.

The High School director will be back this afternoon to meet with the 5th/6th grade Prep choir. 5th grade members need to be ready to go at 2:30 p.m. in the chorus room with the 6th grade. Take your books and coats with you and place them on the stage.

Good luck to our 2nd grade students today as they participate in their own Mini-Olympics. They have been working hard all week reading, writing, and doing math activities that deal with the Olympics and now it is time to let the games begin. They are going for the gold.

Please send ALL Jr. High Chorus students at the end of the day to class. Our accompanist will be here and our Metamora High School Choral director is making a special visit to work with us for contest preparation. Chorus members be ready to go--if you need your folder--it needs to be in the classroom with you, not your locker, stage or left in the storage cabinet!

A reminder that IGSMA Organization Contest for our Choruses is next Friday at Morton High School. All students must have your contest songs MEMORIZED this week!

The IGSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest is Saturday, March 13, at ICC, for our singers and pianists

8th graders, please report to the cafeteria during PE/Health/Band today 1st hour. You will be receiving your Explore Test results and registration information from MTHS.

The MTHS Marching Band will host our 1st Intro. to Color Guard Clinic on Monday February 22, 2010 from 6-8 at Metamora HS. The MTHS Color Guard is an essential element to the visual side of our Marching Band. No previous experience is necessary. Dance and music experience is encouraged but not mandatory. The MTHS Color Guard is open to all incoming freshman with no auditions to join the ensemble and is a PE wavered course. For any further questions, contact Mr. Render at the High School Band office. Mr. Render will be here on Thursday during 8th grade recess in the Frisk Gym for any 8th grade girl interested in finding out more information.

Both 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams defeated Robein last night in 2 matches. The 8th grade won 25-11, 25-15. Delaney led the team with 23 service points. The 7th grade won 25-15, 25-20. Isabelle led the Redbirds with 13 service points.

It was a close match last night for the scholastic bowl A team, but they managed to beat Roanoke Benson in the tie-breaker round. The B team also had a win over Roanoke Benson last night. Great job scholastic bowl teams.

The 8th grade girls volleyball team won their county tournament this weekend defeating LowPoint-Washburn Friday night 25-6, 25-8. They also defeated St. Mary's Saturday 25-15, 25-21, and the very tough El Paso Gridley in 3 matches 7-25, 26-24, 27-25. The girls were down 24-21 the last match and made a courageous come-back to win it all. They play tonight at home against Roanoke Benson at 4:00.

Congratulations to both scholastic bowl teams for wins over Riverview on Thursday. Good luck tomorrow against Roanoke/Benson. Don't forget it is a home meet.

6th grade boys, don’t forget that you have one game against Dunlap Middle School tonight at Dunlap. Your game begins at 4:15 and the bus leaves at 3:00.

Cheerleaders, please bring your cleaned uniforms to Coach McIntosh by this Friday. Please make sure they have been cleaned properly, according to your directions.

Just a reminder...4th and 5th Grade students ...the 5th Band/Recorder concert is not this Thursday, Feb. 4th. The concert has been moved to Feb. 25th. Please make sure your parents are aware of this change.

The 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams lost 2 tough games last night against Dee-Mack. The 7th grade fell short 13-25, 18-25 making a good come back the second match. The 8th grade also fell short 11-25, 21-25 leading the second match until the 19th point. The Lady Redbirds play Eureka tonight at 4:15 so come out and support them!

The 8th grade boys basketball team's season ended in dramatic fashion losing to El Paso-Gridely Sat. 40-43 in the regional tournament. Down by 12 points in the 4th quarter, the redbirds hit 4 three-pointers, three of them by Weston to pull within three. Seth final three point attempt at the buzzer rolled in and out, as the Redbirds season came to a close. It was a tremendous battle and the boys should be proud of their accomplishments. Shawn led all scorers with 15 points.
